Errigal Ciaran and Badoney are safely through to the Ulster club semi-finals after weekend victories over the weekend. There wasn’t to a treble though as Ardboe fell to a sharper Carrickgruppen in the Intermediate grade
On offer now though for the senior semi-finalists Errigal after that good 5-9 to 1-7 victory over Clonduff is a meeting with Fermanagh champions Lisnaskea. The Erne side, in their first senior campaign beat Lacken but as Caroline Little explained they know what to expect against the Siobhan McGarvey led Tyrone champions,
“we know them well enough, it’s a local derby, I think at Errigal, they are hungry for success and we know we will have to be at our best if we are to progress, we played them in a challenge game in the past year or so and they are fast and strong”
Its been a long road for “Skea” the work continues to develop young players and the fruits of many years coaching at underage is coming to the fore with the new players making their mark in 2007. Keen they are then says Caroline to go to a first Ulster senior final,
“ To be honest we have in the past couple of years taken it one game at a time, we beat Lacken well okay but immediately we started to prepare for Errigal, It will be a very difficult test for us but we are focused and ready to tackle one of the best sides in the province, after all if you are going to win you have to beat whatever is in front of you,”
Hunger for success is very much on the lips of Tiffy Quinn and his side too, so long the bridesmaids of the Tyrone championship they plan to be around for a wee bit longer in the Ulster series.
A good all round team performance last weekend eased them through to the last four and it will take a superhuman effort from “Skea” if they are to over turn the pacey and skilful Errigal inspired by Connolly and one of the country’s brightest prospects Lycrecia Quiin..
The weekend started well for Tyrone on Saturday when Badoney eventually overturned the challenge of McCumhalls of Donegal. 2-12 to 3-7, a one point win but a victorys a victory exclaimed Patsy McCrory and the Ciran Woods led side face Latton of Monaghan for a place in the deceider.
Finally it was a day to forget for Ardboe, they conceeeded 5-5 against the Armagh champions Carrickgruppen and found the going tough.
The semi-finals go ahead on the 13th and 14th of October.
