WJ DOLAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
At the end of a very busy championship weekend there were no real suprises as both Carrickmore and St Macaratans are set to meet in the WJ Dolan senior football final.
A three goal haul in the closing eight minutes by Aodh Ruadh took the gloss of a comfortable An Charraig mhor win on Friday at Galbally. The final score was 3-16 to 4-6 in the end and the Carrickmore sides ability to find the scores in the second half kept their noses in front. It had been a good opening half by Dungannon but injuries to Devlin and McAliskey rattled them in the second.
Seamus McCallan rang the changes in the last quarter when the work was done and as Carrickmore eased off Aodh Ruadh got the goals. So another final appearance for a hotly tipped An Charraig Mhor , theres room for improvement in some areas but they will be hard to stop.
Tasked with that job will be St Macartans who accounted well for St Dympnas, always in control the valley side eased home to yet another decider. They will be keen to make amends for last years loss and have shown signs of improvement.
In the Intermediate championship, it was down to the wire in both high octane semi-finals, A late free kick for Fr Rocks sealed a one point win over Beragh while in the end at Killeshill Trillicks two goals proved crucial as they beat a good Badoney team by four points. A very hard to call final is whats on offer now and this Intermediate championship is certainly proving to be of the highest quality.
Just a point separated Loughmacrory and Kildress at the end of a tense Junior semi-final but it was Paddy Fox’s side that emerged with the win and a place in next months final. In that final it’s Clan Na Gael who easily accounted for Galbally in a one sided clash.
The junior B final will feature the ever improving Drumragh against free scoring Drumquin. Sarsfields beat Donaghmore by a goal while Wolfe Tones easily accounted for An Charraig.
The finals are set for mid July and the build ups now will be stepped up by all the clubs that are through.
Finally the Tyrone Fixtures body has confirmed that all games down for 7pm throw ins have been changed to 7-30 starts now
